Have you tasted something delicious at one of the JAS Pot Luck Dinners or at home or at a friend’s home? Dying for the recipe? Well, here are some popular items that have been contributed by Lutheran students and the Lutheran community. Enjoy, and send us your best recipe. If there is something you do not see here and would like the recipe, send an e-mail to cmehlman@dal.ca, and the Lutheran Campus Ministry Council will try to find it for you.

 
Chili — From the Dalhousie Collection of Recipes
2 large chopped onions
1 cup chopped green pepper
3 lbs. ground beef
3 14 oz. cans of kidney beans
28 oz. can of tomatoes
2 5 oz. cans of tomato paste
1 tbls salt
3 tbls of chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp oregano

Vegetarian modification: replace the meat with 2 cups of chopped firm tofu or leave out the meat.

In a large pot, cook the onions in a bit of butter or oil for about 5 minutes. Add the peppers and beef and cook for another 5 minutes. Drain the oil and liquid. Add the other ingredients and simmer for an hour or so.
 
 
Hamburgers — Very Tasty Hamburgers
1 lb. ground round, sirloin or hamburger
1 egg
1 tbls steak sauce or Worcestershire sauce
1 tbls of balsamic vinegar (optional)
1/4 to 1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup dried rolled oats (helps hold the hamburger together on the grill)
1/2 cup chopped onion (optional)
1 tsp of garlic powder

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix very well. Form the mixture into patties of equal size. Grill.
 
 
Salad — Pastor Kimber’s Potluck Salad
1 head romaine lettuce
1 can mandarin oranges (with juice)
1 tbls. olive oil
1 cup cran-raisins or raisins (optional)
2 handfuls spinach (optional)
2 handfuls sunflower seeds (with out the shells on)
2 tbls. parsley
2 shakes ground pepper
Mix together and serve
